Visit the Corporate Business Registration Department (CBRD) to apply for a Business Registration Card

*For Individual, a fee of Rs 125 is payable

*To incorporate a company, a registration fee of Rs 3,400 is payable

Registration is not compulsory. But for you to benefit from any assistance provided by Government through its various institutions, the SME Certificate is compulsory.

SME Certificate

Any legal business activity with a projected annual turnover of less than Rs 250M.

• Online at online.smemu.org
• Call at SME Registration Unit in person at 25, Pope Hennessy St , Port-Louis or at any SME Mauritius Regional Centre.

For individual/Sole Trader

• Business Registration Card
• ​National Identity Card
• Exemption Certificate or Trade Fee from CBRD*/any other fee or license
• Building & Land use permit / Rent Book for rented commercial (Trading) or Industrial Building (Manufacturing/Workshop) (Whichever applicable)

For Company/partnership

• Business Registration Card
• National Identity Card/s of shareholders
• Extract of file or Particulars of Company/partnership
• Exemption Certificate or Trade Fee from CBRD*/ any other fee or license
• Financial Statements for last 2 years for existing company/partnership
• Building & Land use permit / Rent Book for rented commercial (Trading) or Industrial Building (Manufacturing/Workshop) (Whichever applicable)

For Cooperative Society

• Business Registration Card
• National Identity Card/s of the President & Secretary
• Certificate of Cooperative Society
• Exemption Certificate or Trade Fee from CBRD*/ any other fee or license
• Financial Statements for last 2 years for existing cooperative society
• Background information of the Cooperative issued by the Ministry
• Building & Land use permit / Rent Book for rented commercial (Trading) or Industrial Building (Manufacturing/Workshop) (Whichever applicable)

​The complete application is verified and processed. If approved, a certificate of Registration will be issued to you and collection can be done at the SME Registration Unit, Pope Hennessy Building, 25, Pope Hennessy St, Port-Louis after 7 working days if all documents have been submitted correctly.

No, the Registration Certificate is not a permit or a licence. Appropriate authorisations have to be sought from relevant egulatory bodies.​

​The Certificate is valid for 5 years after date of issue.

The holder may apply for renewal of the certificate at least 3 months prior to its date of expiry.​

Yes. The holder of a certificate shall make an application in writing to change:

(a) the Business Address of the SME and/or
(b) nature of the Business activity in relation to which the registration certificate was issued.​
